Each year we begin our Thanksgiving Day celebration with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, hot cinnamon rolls, dear friends, family when they can travel in, and our annual Turkey Bowl. Somehow, Spencer always manages to be on the winning flag football team. This year was no exception, despite having to give up his traditional role as his team’s quarterback. As you know, he and Payton are still recovering from their shoulder surgeries on their strong arms. Despite them having to take it easy, this years game was the best ever!

PaytonandNeely Happy Thanksgiving 2014! PaytonandNeelyThanksgiving day is an incredible way to usher in the Christmas season. I’m grateful for an entire holiday dedicated to giving thanks and the perspective it gives me. As I reflect on the things I’m most grateful for like family, friends, my life,  and my faith, I stock up on gratitude and renew my commitment to remember the reason for the coming season.

Payton turned 16 this month. Soon I will post about the birthday celebration we had for she and her best friend Emma who will turn 16 on December 1, 2014. 16 is such a coming of age milestone and with it Payton is allowed to begin dating. For our family, dating is defined as outings with boys and girls without adult supervision. Tomorrow night Payton will go out on her first date.

Melanie & Spencer in Maine

We just learned Bryant will be filming additional scenes for “Terminator Genesis” in January. When he wrapped on his last project, “Under The Dome” he got braces. In order to match the previous scenes he filmed for Terminator, he will have to have these removed and be fitted for a retainer to maintain our progress.

Spencer and I were afforded a short getaway when his mother came out for the big Sweet 16 bash. I’ve always wanted to go to Maine. My desire began when I was a little girl and watched “Anne of Green Gables” on PBS and the host wrongly stated that it was filmed in Maine. Although it was November and the off-season, Maine did not disappoint. It was beautiful and I count myself lucky to have had the chance to live the dream. We can’t wait to go back.

Ava, Neely, Melanie and GiGi

Ava and Neely had a generous grandma fix! Having time with their GiGi is extremely important for them. Neely’s deep need for a connection to her grandparents is evident in her very countenance while she is with them. Some highlights of my visit with GiGi were our trip with the little girls to Yates Mill Pond in Raleigh, shopping in downtown Apex, North Carolina and Dinner at the wonderful Rock Harbor Grill. Rock Harbor’s New England Clam Chowder beats all I tasted in New England!

I’m extremely grateful for these recent wonderful experiences and for such a lovely Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Melanie.
